My only complaint is that Sam says "do you understand?" WAAAAY too much. They understand Sam.. Everyone understands. Your parents understand, Carly understands, Epps understands, the government understands, and the autobots understand! We all get it! Wow it's annoying. I don't think I've ever heard a phrase repeated by a character so many times in a movie.

He said he was going to "kil them all" only after he saw the devastation they caused in Chicago. I don't think it was "homicidal crap," they slaughtered thousands of humans just to show them what badasses they were. He saying he"ll kill them all, meaning the ones who caused this. Avenging the deaths of thousands isn't called homicide, it's called payback. I personly loved when he walked in and said that. I watched the cartoons years ago but have never read the comics. I don't know if it was out of character for Prime to talk of revenge, but maybe that's because in the cartoons and comics the decepticons never destroyed Chicago? (I'm asking, I honestly don't know.). Either way though I still got a kick out it.

I think someone said earlier that those deceptions were built there. They weren't from the ship that landed on the moon. They didn't come out of the ship, it looked like they came out of the ground. I believe all the autobots on the ship were dead, and the decepticons had been returning there to build more of them. If not though, it's possible the autobots on that ship were all traitors led by sentinel prime. They maybe knew of his plan? But because they're all red eyed, I really think they weren't the same autobots.

I realize this post is hella old, but I felt compelled to write -- I'm watching TSN on cable right now and it's all coming back to me ...
I cannot fathom HOW anyone would laud Eisenberg's performance/portrayal as complex or nuanced. And I certainly don't see why he was deemed worthy of being nominated for an Oscar. I could only tolerate watching the movie the first time because of the performances of Garfield, Hammer, and even that guy who played the Winklevoss's sidekick. (I find TSN on the whole to be overrated, in fact, but that's a whole other issue.) And even after having seen the film a few times since then, my opinion hasn't changed one bit.
I love great filmmaking and can definitely appreciate and recognize a good performance when I see one, no matter what the character portrayal demands. Eisenberg's performance was the LOWLIGHT of the entire effing movie, in my opinion. He absolutely did end up playing Zuckerberg in an utterly and completely one-dimensional fashion. There was nothing subtle or layered about his acting at all. He was so totally uncompelling that it was flat-out disturbing to me. Isn't a viewer supposed to feel for or towards the character in some way after watching a performance? Yeah. I didn't experience that after watching Eisenberg's portrayal. The praise he got for his performance made me seriously wonder about people's judgment and taste in actors/acting nowadays. Generally speaking, the younger generations of actors seem to possess less skill and creative intelligence than their predecessors, so I guess audiences are being given no choice but to downsize their expectations and standards.

Sam was busy with the russians when they went to the moon! it's how they found out there were hundreds of pillars. so he didn't know at all.

agree with you on number five. disagree on number six. Optimus had his turn to pout because the humans were supposed to be their allies. He's pissed they kept the knowledge of Cheybole (however you spell it) offline from him.

All three! Lol. First for the allspark because he didn't known Sentinel had been shot down. Then he was pulled in by the Fallen, so what better way to get rid of the planet of filty monkeys then using the Fallen as help and thirdly, Sentinel's deal couldn't happen because of the power drain. LIke it's stated in the movie, they needed the Matrix to revive sentiel

answer to question four - that's because he didn't know about them going to the moon in the first place. Answer to question five, he had to play nice with the autobots until the time was tight. you seem to have some problems with the movie. if you don't like the true answers to the problems or your silly enough to not be able to figure out the answers (which are really easy, by the way) then you need help.

I don't agree with John on this matter but I guess this is why it is called an opinion. In my own, I think that he is overrated, there are some films of his where he is brilliant and has been solid in everything else but to say that he would be ahead of DiCaprio or Day-Lewis is a little ridiculous to me.

I Think your are right that Tom welling would make it a Smallville movie (at least right now). However, I also think the many are missing a a great opportunity to expand on a story the seriously needs expansion. Smallvi.le is the only thing that has made it possible. I absolutly love Superman but lets face it. The same old story is getting old on the big screen. There is so much material in the comics to build on but no one will take the leap. Smallville did and gave it wide appeal. So, my point is so what if it is Smallville the movie, maybe that is exactly what Superman needs. At least it paves the way for a Justice League movie in the near future.

I think you may be looking a little bit too pessimistic into this, John, and I know it's been like three months since you posted this article and video, so you probably won't read this comment, but when I look back into your archive, go back to 2007. What film were you in such a big excitement over? Michael Bay's first Transformers movie. That came out in July of 2007. As we all know, with the exception of the two sequels, which I know you intensely disliked, you loved the first Michael Bay Transformers movie. That movie came out in theaters in July 2007, while the DVD and HD-DVD (yeah, sad I know) came out the following October, just about four months after the movie was originally in theaters. (The release date of the Blu-Ray version doesn't count, since that came out one year after the theatrical release due to Paramount's exclusive deal with Toshiba to release all their movies on HD-DVD at the time.)

Also, hypothetically, since you personally hate how soon movies come out on DVD (or Blu-Ray, which is what I buy my movies on from now on) does that mean that if, say, I were a distant relative of yours who doesn't get to see you that often, yet we're very close, and I decided to pick up either X-Men: First Class or Thor on DVD or Blu-Ray for you as a gift, would you ultimately reject my gift just because the movie came out on home video too soon?

Why did the entire force of human armies get absolutely killed and then like 50 guys can take down a bunch of Decepticons no problem?

or this one:

Why did Cybertron simply stop transporting next to Earth the first time the pillar was interrupted but the second time it imploded and took all the decepticons with it?

or this one:

Why are the decepticons deceivingly easy to kill in the end of each movie but for entire first 3/4 of it, they're seemingly invincible? If it was really that easy to kill them, why didnt you just do it in the first place?

LOL! You're right about everythin'! Ludacris was funny in this movie. Their team reminded me of the team in the movie "The Italian Job," 'coz they used Elena as a distraction back then, just like Stella. I didn't catch the credits when I watched this! Is Letty really alive? I can't wait for the 6th sequel!

John I have to say that I really enjoyed your movie. It is one of the best films I've seen this year. It really touched me being a divorced dude in my thirties. I could relate to a lot of things Cid was going through. The awkward struggles of having to deal with a longtime ex who has moved on, even though I found myself rooting for Cid to get her back. The online dating element was wonderful and I was amazed at how real and personal the movie felt to me. You are a very talented filmmaker John. I would love to see more of these characters in the future. Thanks for making this film! I'm going to watch it again with some more friends over the weekend.

One inconsistency that I notice is how did Sentinel Prime that we see for the first time inside the ship that crash on the moon ~50 years ago looks like he already scanned a modern day fire truck ? While clearly in the first movie the autobots look like cybertronian before they scanned their respective vehicle

Confirmation isn't the surety as you have mentioned in the post. It was shocking news for me when they didn't casted johnny depp into the batman series. Its the loss for their movie. They can't find the better actor in than johnny for such roles.

While you are right on SOME things, others aren't.
1: I believe that the Decepticons might have done this because 1) they did it because Sentinel was locked away in that hole, and it might have protected him, or 2) the Decepticons who shot him down might have not known about the deal.
2: This one confused me as well.
3: I think that when the Autobots surrendered, Cybertron might have already been barren, but the Autobots only surrendered because they were hopelessly outnumbered.
4: This one's easy. When Optimus and Ratchet head to the moon, we can clearly see them taking the same shuttle the Autobots take later in the film. Sam didn't know this because he knew next to nothing about what the Autobots were doing, so he knew nothing about that Shuttle.
5: I think Sentinel may have declined, because he believed he knew what he was doing wasn't right (using another race for slavery) but he was desperate for the survival of his race. So he declined because he still had some of the Prime ways, and knew he didn't deserve it.
6: I laughed.

I completely understand where you are coming from.
My wife actually had to make me put a stop to my 'talking about movies that don't exist' habit.
Even after watching your video and knowing this I almost told her about the proposed 'The Twilight Zone' movie that AICN posted about.
(Because I know she would like this idea...especially with Nolan possibly doing it...there I go...)
I took a moment and didn't do it.
I wait to talk to her about movies when the trailers arrive.
Thanks to her help I don't talk to other people about movies until filming has begun.
(I used to be like every other fan boy and play the 'your dream cast' game ala Wizard.)
